Dr. Selçuk Turan Completes Short-Term Scientific Mission at Tallinn University
Dr. Selçuk Turan, an Assistant Professor in Educational Administration at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, Türkiye, successfully completed a Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) collaboration at Tallinn University Baltic Film, Media and Arts School. This mission was part of the CA21143 project on Transnational Family Dynamics in Europe (TraFaDy) and took place from February 3 to February 7, 2025.

(TraFaDy) is a network based on the Cost Action 21143 and aims to deepen the knowledge of the growing, rapidly changing phenomenon and dynamics of Transnational Families by bringing together researchers and stakeholders from different disciplines and countries to address the need for transnational insights and to formulate policy and practice-oriented recommendations with an impact on international, national, sub-local and local practices.
Dr. Selçuk Turan’s participation in the STSM was hosted by Dr. Anastassia Zabrodskaja, Professor of Intercultural Communication and Head of the Master’s Programme in Communication Management at Tallinn University. Together, they collaborated on research related to Academic and Social Adaptation of Transnational University Students: A Comparative Study of Türkiye and Estonia, exploring the challenges and experiences of transnational students in higher education. This academic collaboration highlights the importance of cross-border knowledge exchange and the growing interest in transnational family dynamics and educational adaptation. Dr. Turan’s insights will continue to contribute to scholarly discussions and policy considerations in the field of educational administration and intercultural studies.
Dr. Selçuk Turan, who earned his Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Hacettepe University in 2017, is an accomplished scholar with research interests in 21st-century skills, leadership, organizational behavior, school improvement, and classroom communication. His work has been widely published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, and he has contributed to books on educational administration and leadership. His visit to Tallinn University was marked by productive academic exchanges and meaningful discussions, reinforcing international collaboration in the study of transnational education and intercultural communication. The university’s faculty and students greatly appreciated his contributions, and his lectures were met with enthusiastic engagement.
During his stay, Dr. Selçuk Turan delivered two guest lectures, sharing his expertise on educational administration and intercultural communication. His first lecture, held on February 3, was part of the KOI7046.FK Globalization and Identity in Society course. Titled Academic and Social Adaptation of Transnational University Students: A Comparative Study of Türkiye and Estonia, the session explored the challenges and experiences of transnational students in higher education. The lecture included an engaging warm-up activity utilizing the interactive Web 2.0 tool Mentimeter and a cultural introduction through a popular Turkish song. Dr. Turan also presented preliminary findings from a pilot study, offering valuable insights into the adaptation processes of students in different educational settings.
On February 5, Dr. Selçuk Turan delivered his second lecture for the KOI7030.FK Super-Diversity and Intercultural Communication course. Titled Super-Diversity from a Different Perspective in Real Life, the session provided an in-depth analysis of super-diversity in contemporary societies, emphasizing real-world implications and challenges.
