Since 2022, we have been offering intensive Russian language courses, attracting numerous students from our partner universities in Asia, Europe, and America. In addition to regular language training, we have organized and will continue to organize various collaborative projects with our partners, some of which are listed below. Advanced Russian Language and Area Studies Program

In the summer of 2024 Tallinn University hosted the 7-weeeks long  in collaboration with . Seventeen students from U.S. universities participated in small-group Russian language classes and explored Estonian culture through a range of excursions in Tallinn, Narva, and nearby regions.

To immerse themselves in local traditions, the students celebrated ´³²¹²¹²Ô¾±±èä±ð±¹, the midsummer holiday, alongside Estonian and international friends, joining in the dancing and festivities around the bonfire. They visited key cultural and historical sites, including the Open Air Museum, the Estonian Parliament, the Arvo Pärt Centre, and several other museums in Tallinn. They also had the opportunity to engage with Estonia’s diverse religious traditions, participate in television and radio broadcasts, and make special trips to Tartu and Narva, deepening their understanding of the country’s rich heritage.

Summer School of Russian, German, and Estonian Languages

 The summer school in Tallinn is a great opportunity to get to grips with new cultures, languages and environments and to learn lots of new things. The city offers much more than you might think!

Student from Austria

In July 2024, in collaboration with Burgenland University of Applied Sciences and supported by the Austrian Ministry of Science, Tallinn University hosted a focused on Russian, German, and Estonian languages.

The program welcomed 22 students from Austrian universities for an intensive two-week Russian language immersion with an introduction to the basics of Estonian. Simultaneously, 10 Estonian students enhanced their German skills under the guidance of Austrian instructors. Each day concluded with tandem Russian-German sessions, providing an opportunity for cross-language practice and exchange.

As part of the cultural program, participants visited significant historical sites across Estonia, including Kadriorg, Tallinn’s Old Town, the Bank of Estonia Museum, Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom, the Arvo Pärt Centre, Keila-Joa Park and Castle, Kuremäe Monastery, Narva’s Old Town and Fortress, and the breathtaking Ontika waterfall.

Russian Language and Area Studies Immersion

The feedback from the student evaluation forms indicated high satisfaction with the program, with students expressing appreciation for the professors.

In September 2024, Tallinn University hosted the Russian Language and Area Studies Immersion program, a collaboration with (USA). American students engaged in an intensive Russian language immersion experience, enriched by specialized lectures from Tallinn University faculty. The curriculum explored topics relevant to the region’s complex historical, political, and cultural landscape, including Multilingual Tallinn: people and languages in real and digital spaces, Diplomacy and Russian-Estonian Relations, Oil, Gas and Diamonds: Resources for Politics and Policy, and Key Events and Different Opinions. From the Contemporary History of Estonia. Further lectures addressed issues such as the political and social dynamics affecting Russian speakers in the Baltics, the Soviet film era's lasting impact, hybrid threats in the Baltic region, and Chinese influence in Eastern Europe.

In addition to academic learning, participants experienced Estonia’s rich culture by visiting notable landmarks in Tallinn, and they also took excursions to Tartu and Narva.
