Studying Human Rights in the Digital Society: A Pathway to New Opportunities

HR

My name is Keti and I moved to Estonia from Georgia to study on a Master’s program in Human Rights in the Digital Society at Tallinn University in 2022. I had no prior education in law; however, the program design allowed me and many others coming from different fields to create the basis in international law and then build on it in-depth knowledge in human rights and digital rights. I was even fortunate enough to represent Estonia with the TLU team at the Jessup International Law Competition on my first year of studies. This was made possible by the support and guidance of excellent professionals, the professors and academic staff who work constantly on adapting the program to meet changing needs and new developments in the field and are always eager to encourage and support students’ various interests and ambitions.

In 2024 I joined Wise, Estonia’s Fintech unicorn as a Fincrime quality specialist focusing on international sanctions. The knowledge I gained at TLU and the professional contacts I made while studying here played a major role in this. The unique focus of the program on digital rights and international law, together with practical experience one can gain from different courses and exchange programs offered by the university have helped me develop skills that are crucial for my role at Wise. It offers opportunities for everyone, no matter which field they come from, who are interested in international law, human rights, and digital rights to start from a scratch or build on their existing knowledge, as it is uniquely designed to meet the challenges and tackle emerging issues in these fields with highly qualified, practicing professionals who bring their vision and enthusiasm to the auditorium every day.
